For their recent art class project the kids at school learned about making hand-drawn batik using wax-resist dyeing technique. Hand-drawn batik is the finest, most expensive and also the most sought after batik here. The process of making a good hand-written batik is very intricate, it requires concentration and a lot of patience, not to mention time consuming. So I was curious about this project when I first heard that the kids were going to make their own batik the traditional way.
But kudos to the kindergarten teachers there, they managed to simplify the process of making batik and turned this introduction to our cultural heritage into a fun learning experience for the kids. Unfortunately, as this activity was done in the classroom, I don’t have many pictures to post. Only got one picture taken from the event. And what make it even worst is Evan wasn’t holding his own work on the picture above. According to him, he already finished with his and was holding his friend’s unfinished works when the picture was taken. The school photographer didn’t know it and the teachers failed to notice that.
This is what he made for that art class project…
